National Human Rights Month | Resources

December is set apart around the world to observe National and Universal Human Rights Month. The month is a reminder of the basic rights and fundamental freedoms that every human has. It is also a time to reflect on how we treat others and what we can do for others! The Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations dates back to 1948, after the atrocities of World War II. It inspired the international human rights law and the formulation of the International Bill of Human Rights. Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. In the United States, President George W. Bush declared the first Human Rights Week in 2001. Since then, it has become a month-long and worldwide holiday.

We encourage you to read the Bill of Rights to learn more about your rights, what they mean, and how we can help others. Below are some of our resources for children and families to learn more about human rights, social justice and activism!
