Each year the UN International Day of Peace is observed around the world on September 21.
Join with people around the world by observing this International Day of Peace!
People in cities, communities and villages worldwide have engaged in the International Day of Peace in diverse and meaningful ways.

Engaging in Peace Day can take place privately, as part of a group and/or as a participant in an event or program. Margarita Engle & Amy Ludwig VanDerwater are on a mission. Their mission is to we are hoping that our educator and author and illustrator friends will flood the internet with images, poems, books, and ideas of peace on this day (9/21) along with the UN hashtag #peaceday. Dylan Metrano (illustrator of EVERY DAY BIRDS) has also made this image to share and use as a profile picture.
This dynamic duo has also created a unique way to make this international observance a resource for those looking for articles, books, events and inspiration. Margarita and Amy are inviting authors and illustrators and teachers to share writing or art or projects related to peace here on their

On September 21, we encourage everyone to fill social media with images and words of peace. You are welcome to change your profile picture on this day to Dylan Metrano’s peace dove, shared first in the “Peaceful Pictures” (third) column below. The UN’s hashtag for this day is #peaceday.
