Happy Thanksgiving! In the United States of America, every fourth Thursday of November has been set aside to celebrate Thanksgiving. This year the holiday falls on November 28th. Thanksgiving traditionally has been a celebration of the blessings of the year, including the harvest. In 1621, the Plymouth colonists from England and the Native American Wampanoag people shared an autumn harvest feast that is acknowledged as one of the first Thanksgiving celebrations in the colonies (The First Thanksgiving). Declared a national holiday by Abraham Lincoln 1863, modern celebrations involve a gathering and meal with family and/or friends. Thanksgiving’s history dates back to the 16th century in England but harvest festival holidays occur around the world during autumn as well.
