Happy Lunar New Year! Lunar New Year 2025 celebrations begin on January 29, which begins the Year of the Snake. The Snake is associated with wisdom, charm, elegance, and transformation in Chinese culture (Globe Trottin’ Kids). Lunar New Year is celebrated by a variety of countries and cultures that follow the lunisolar calendar. These countries include China, Vietnam, Korea and their diasporas. The exact dates vary each year due to moon cycles, but typically fall between January 21 and February 20 (Lunar New Year 2025 for Kids).
People around the world celebrate the Lunar New Year in many ways. Here are some of the most common traditions, activities, and foods: cleaning, parades, fireworks, Hóng Bāo Red Envelopes, and more! Some traditional foods include: Lucky fruit (especially mandarin oranges), Dumplings, Glutinous rice cakes, Spring rolls, Tangyuan (sweet rice balls), and Tteokguk (sliced rice cake soup). Depending upon the traditions followed, the celebrations can last up to 15 days!
