Merry Christmas! Many Christians (and non-Christians) worldwide celebrate Christmas on December 25th. The holiday is a religious and cultural celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ! For Christians, it is a reminder of the love of God who came to earth in the form of a man for the forgiveness of sin. Jesus’ birth is recounted in the New Testament of the Bible, known to many as the Nativity of Jesus. For most denominations, the season of Advent anticipates the “coming of Christ” and this year, it began on December 1st. The Twelve Days of Christmas begins on Christmas day and ends on January 6.

Many Chrisitans attend church services to celebrate and spend the holiday with family. Other popular holiday traditions include completing an advent calendar; gift giving; listening to Christmas music; going caroling; watching Christmas movies; and putting up Christmas decorations (including Christmas trees and lights). Santa Claus, Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, and Christkind, are figures that bring gifts to children during the Christmas season.

Below are some of our resources for children and families to learn more about Christmas and the different ways people around the world celebrate the holiday!
