Celebrating the Bilingual Child Month with Language Lizard and Waltham Family School
October is Celebrating the Bilingual Child Month, and Read Your World is marking it with a story we’re excited to share. For many years, Language Lizard has been a Platinum Sponsor of Read Your World, supporting our mission and initiatives and supplying the bilingual books we’ve purchased for Waltham Family School. Now, as a champion literacy partner, they’re going a step further: they’re donating the books to celebrate Bilingual Child Month, as part of their 2027 partnership with Read Your World.
What’s in the donation
Language Lizard is sending Waltham Family School a total of 40 books!
- 5 bilingual titles in each of 6 languages: Arabic, French, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish
- 10 additional titles
- An 8.5 x 11 “Hello” poster to hang up
- Bookmarks to give to students
- Downloadable lesson plans and teaching resources
Why it matters
The teachers at Waltham Family School love these books. They’re especially excited to receive the same title in several languages, so they can build one lesson plan around a single language and reuse it for each of the others. One story can reach children in many home languages, and every child sees their own language and culture on the page.
That’s the heart of Bilingual Child Month: celebrating children who move between languages and giving them the books to be proud of it.
