Now more than ever, a message of hope, compassion, empathy, and understanding is needed.

Now more than ever, we need to come together as a nation of beautifully diverse people and encourage and implement KINDNESS.

Kindness is a word that many of us are hearing more and more thanks to a concerning,  tense, and sometimes scary 2016. It something we all as humans need to be mindful of especially when it comes to being role models for kids. As always, encouraging and teaching kindness to children starts at home and in the classroom.

Powerhouse Children’s Publishing Company, Scholastic, has noted that books and activities that promote kindness will be a key trend in 2017…

Kindness Classroom Kit

…and the Multicultural Children’s Book Day Team couldn’t agree more. With that in mind we put our collective heads together and with the help of authors Jarrett Krosoczka and DEMI, have created a very special downloadable MCBD Kindness Classroom Kit for all teachers, parents, librarians, and educators to utilize.

Our FREE Kindness Classroom Kit containing:

  • Diverse Kindness Book List for ages 4 -12
  • Classroom Kindness Activities
  • “Be a Hero Be Kind” Kindness Poster
  • Multicultural Children’s Book Day Poster

The prep of the upcoming Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2017 (1/27/17) is humming right along! In case you’ve missed all the details, Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom are teaming up for the fourth year to raise awareness on the ongoing need to include kid’s books that celebrate diversity in home and school bookshelves while also working diligently to get more of these types of books into the hands of young readers, parents and educators.

BUT, ALL Sponsorship levels will be CLOSING on January 6, 2017!

Candlewick Press is one of the fastest-growing children’s book publishers in the United States.

In 1992, Candlewick Press opened its doors as an independent children’s publisher, and we remain an independent publisher today. As part of Walker Books Group, Candlewick Press enjoys a unique ownership structure which includes more than 100 employees in our US office, staff in our UK and AUS offices, plus more than 150 authors and illustrators.

Candlewick Press arrived on the scene with some of the highest-quality picture books anywhere. And in the years since then, our offerings have grown to encompass all ages, from board books to e-books, high-end novelty to cutting-edge fiction. What hasn’t changed is our goal of excellence, our model of independence, and our commitment to the authors and illustrators who create our books and the readers who love them.

Two decades and more than 2,000 awards and accolades later, we are as committed as ever to independent thinking and primed for a future that looks brighter than ever.
