In honor of Bilingual Child Month in October, Read Your World is thrilled to shine a spotlight on the magic and importance of bilingual books. Through a series of featured events, we are on a mission to raise awareness about the benefits of bilingual books for children, connect with families, educators, and children’s book enthusiasts, and celebrate multilingual culture. This event will be facilitated by Author and Board of Trustees Member, Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett.

Meet the Experts! 

Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett

Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett is the creator behind Miss Panda Chinese, a website dedicated to Chinese language and culture. She offers interactive and enjoyable teaching materials for parents and educators alike. She has over 15 years of experience teaching Chinese and English as a Second Language (ESL) and her teaching expertise extends across various countries, including Canada, Ecuador, Morocco, Taiwan, and the United States. Amanda will be assuming the role of moderator.

Ute Limacher-Riebold, Ph.D.

Ute is a Multilingual Language Consultant and Intercultural Communication Expert with a passion for languages and cultures. Her work includes being a Linguist, Researcher, and Author.

Frances Díaz Evans, M.Ed.

Frances Díaz Evans is a Latina author and educator. She’s the author of Coco la cotorra puertorriqueña and the creative force behind two impactful ventures. She is the founder of “Discovering the World Through My Son’s Eyes,” a multicultural and bilingual parenting website. Additionally, she spearheads “Discovering Español,” a business committed to online Spanish language instruction.

Yoshito Darmon-Shimamori

Yoshito Darmon-Shimamori is half-French and half-Japanese and was raised bilingually and bi-culturally in France. He is now a French and Spanish teacher in a secondary school in England and is raising his two sons to be multilingual, multicultural, and multi-literate. Yoshito helps Multilingual Pre-teens find their SUPERPOWER.

Anneke Vanmarcke Forzani

Anneke, a lifelong language enthusiast, founded Language Lizard in 2005 to provide creative and effective language products that support language learning and immigrant communities. As a first-generation American, she has experience in marketing and international business, along with expertise in teaching English to non-native speakers and writing on early language and culture learning. She’s also been featured on Public Radio International’s “The World in Words.”

Frances Evans

Frances Díaz Evans is a Latina Author, Educator, Multicultural and Language Advocate. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Universidad del Este in Puerto Rico and a master’s degree in Spanish education from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. She joined Multicultural Children’s Book Day in the early days advocating for multicultural books as a book reviewer, then as a co-host, and now she’s excited to take on the role of project manager.
