One of the biggest perks of reading is learning new things. Diverse children’s books are great tools for introducing different cultures to young readers. If you aren’t sure where to start, Lila Lou’s Little Library by Nikki Bergstresser has tips on building your own little library in your neighborhood. Multicultural learning can be a wonderful communal experience.

How about adding an award-winning book to your own little library? There are numerous incredible titles that share inspiring stories and messages on diversity, but we’ve found some that we think deserve a special place on your shelf! Where Are You From? By Yamile Saied Méndez and Jaime Kim is a beautiful story about a little girl’s experiences with being asked where she is from and discovering the answer with the help of her abuelo.

Food makes learning fun and engaging! Food is a tasty way to learn about other cultures. My Food, Your Food, Our Food by Emma Carlson Berne is about the different foods that we like and learning about other cultures through food! Make learning interactive by trying out the foods mentioned in the book. It’ll be a memorable experience for all.

Books can also teach about traditions in different cultures that you may not have known about! Learning about cultural traditions through books is a great way to learn a little bit more about other cultures and how they are similar and different from your own. Three Pockets Full by Cindy L. Rodriguez is a story about the traditions within Mexican weddings and dealing with changing family dynamics.

Some of the best books are the ones that teach us new things! Raja’s Pet Camel by Anita Nahta Amin is a heartwarming story about embracing our differences and unconditional love. This book focuses on tradition and perseverance and is a great story for anyone looking to go on an adventure. Add this tale to your reading rotation to go on a journey with Raja and his unusual pet!

These are just a few of the countless titles that can be added to your little library and teach your reader about different cultures.
