The MCCBD Team have been working with the brilliant and creative Susan Raab of Raab and Associates for Multicultural Children’s Book Day. Susan came up with the idea for anyone to recognize their two favorite diversity, inclusive and multicultural authors and illustrators. You don’t have to be an author or illustrator to participate.

Multicultural Children's Book Day author shout out

It works like this:

The Friends of MCCBD $25 Shout Out and Recognition of Author Friends

Gift a shout-out to two author friends who have books with diversity themes. MCCBD will not only acknowledge your shout-out on social media, we will create a blog post with these authors/books naming you as the gift-giver.

Nominate and Donate HERE to support the cause and nominate two authors for virtual Shout-Outs!

We are so excited to announce that Pomelo Books is our very first Bronze Sponsor for MCCBd 2016!

Pomelo Books was founded in 2012 by Sylvia Vardell, Professor in the School of Library and Information Studies at Texas Woman’s University, and poet Janet Wong, author of 30 books for children.

Teachers and librarians were clamoring for a quick and easy way to teach poetry, prompting Vardell and Wong to create The Poetry Friday Anthology with its popular “Take 5” mini-lessons for each poem. Today, The Poetry Friday Anthology series features poems by a “Who’s Who” of children’s poetry—with Jack Prelutsky, J. Patrick Lewis, Nikki Grimes, Margarita Engle, Joyce Sidman, Alma Flor Ada, Marilyn Singer, Pat Mora, Joseph Bruchac, Linda Sue Park, and over 100 more—while the Take 5 method has transformed the way poetry is taught in thousands of K-8 classrooms throughout the world.

As with any event, success is measured by the strength and effectiveness of the team. At MCCBD Headquarters we are happy to report that we do indeed have a very strong team!

Multicultural Children’s Book Day is thankful for its CoHosts. Our CoHosts are a group of select powerhouse bloggers who share the same diversity in children’s literature passions and beliefs. They also assist in extending the reach and spreading the word of Multicultural Children’s Book Day. These 11 blogs will also be host to the wildly-popular book review/blog post link-up the week of 1/27/16. We would appreciate if you could take a few minutes and visit each of these excellent blogs. These women were selected by the MCCBD team because of their true dedication to supporting diversity in children’s literature.

{Guest post from author Stephen Hodges}

When I embarked on the journey four years ago to create a picture book about a little girl with magic hair who was also her best friend, I never realized where it would take me. I was inspired by playing with a loved one’s big poof of curly hair that sat on top of her head. I loved forming it into shapes and I would even make it talk. After quite a bit of cultural and academic research, “The Magic Poof “was born!

The Magic Poof

Picture Books are great, but I’ve always wanted my characters to come to life in a more animated form. I also wanted to take advantage of the access and interactive nature mobile devices.
